Clan Lab 8-Hour Refresher Training

The clandestine Laboratory Safety Refresher Training is an annual course satisfying the OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (29 CFR 1910.120(q)(8)) for designated investigative personnel. The class reintroduces students to basic narcotic production methods, chemical and physical hazards, air monitoring, respiratory protection, personal protective equipment use, decon, site control, site emergencies and other related safety topics.  Law enforcement personnel who have been certified to perform activities related to the seizure and field investigation of clandestine laboratories are mandated to review policies and procedures on an annual basis.  The Refresher component of an individual agency’s health and safety program allows law enforcement personnel to maintain their certification, review pertinent aspects of the safety program and receive new or updated information as it pertains to clandestine laboratories and health and safety regulations.

Three-Day Course


Course Description:

This course is designed for experienced clan lab investigators, site safety officers, chemists, hazmat personnel, and other first responders to clandestine laboratories or high hazard scenes. In this intense three-day course you will learn about the types of high hazard scenes, production methods, toxicology, sampling, field testing instruments, and, most specifically, the use and requirements of wearing Level A personal protective equipment.

Course Requirements:

Students must have completed a Basic Clandestine Laboratory Safety training course and be currently certified as an OSHA qualified first responder. This includes having current medical clearance to wear respiratory protection and a Level A suit.

  • Fentanyl analogs (including carfentanil)
  • LSD
  • PCP
  • Other High Hazard scenes
  • Use of Level A PPE
  • Maintenance of Level A PPE
  • Level A site control
  • Level A PPE decontamination
  • Field instruments used to identify hazards
    • RAMAN
    • FTIR
    • GC/MS
    • Air monitoring equipment

This course will have the participants suiting up in Level A personal protective equipment (PPE) and practicing processing a high hazard scene. Students will also learn the pressure testing and visual inspections requirements of the Level A PPE along with the necessary maintenance for the equipment.

Live Cook Overview

The Live Cook: Methamphetamine Synthesis training course is designed to provide law enforcement personnel with hands-on insight into how methamphetamine is manufactured. The course participants will experience synthesizing these drugs themselves in a controlled laboratory setting. Students will actively participate in the synthesis of methamphetamine using the HI/Red P route.

This extremely specialized course is instructed by  forensic chemists with many years of experience. Students completing the course will obtain a better understanding of the manufacturing process of manufacturing methamphetamine, improve a participant’s ability to testify in court, and enhance his or her credentials as an expert witness.
