Description Of Charlotte

The 2016 C.L.I.A. conference will be held in beautiful Charlotte, North Carolina. Charlotte is a vibrant and exciting city with a rich history for the participants to enjoy while they increase their knowledge of Clandestine Laboratories. After an exciting day of hands on participation the participants will be only minutes from downtown and other great features to enjoy.

The National White Water Training Center is only a thirteen minute drive from conference location at 3315 Scott Futrell Dr for people to see where the olympians train. If you enjoy the outdoors and good food this is the place to visit. There is ziplining, obstacle courses, walking and riding trails, and a fantastic restaurant known as the River’s Edge Bar and Grill if you just want to sit back and watch the athletes with a locally crafted beverage. Charlotte is also home to the NASCAR Hall of Fame and the Charlotte Motor Speedway. If you enjoy racing or just want to understand the history of the sport, this is a once in a lifetime place to visit.

Located within an easy shuttle ride of the conference is Charlotte’s active downtown district. There are many highly rated restaurants and plenty of areas to just walk and enjoy the sights. Despite the big city feel of Charlotte, a major draw to the location is its small town affordability.

The hotel rates for the conference will only be $117 and considering the amenities such an indoor and outdoor pool this is very reasonable. The hotel will host the conference so participants can enjoy a complimentary breakfast and walk into their class. The classes being offered for general participation include a lecture on how to properly contain and safely handle fentanyl which is a fast growing and dangerous drug law enforcement needs to be aware of. There will be a presentation on the Boston Marathon bombing with the investigator actively involved in the dismantling and investigation of the crime. This is an eye opening presentation as not only is it informative, but it will help investigators understand the difficulties of homemade bombs and booby traps found at Clandestine Laboratories.

On Wednesday there will be something new for every investigator to learn as there will be a basic investigation class for new investigators and an advanced class for more experienced investigators. This format will help every participant to have a complete grasp of how to investigate a clandestine laboratory. There are no requirements for either class, and each person will be able to choose which class they feel comfortable attending. The classes are staggered so the participant will be able to attend both and get a complete mastery of an investigation.

The breakout sessions are an opportunity for everyone to choose what topics they are most interested in. The most important class is the hands on laboratory setting of making different types of drugs found at clandestine laboratories. This is vitally important for courtroom testing and for the participant to understand the chemistry and chemicals needed to make the drugs. There will also be the opportunity to witness how methamphetamine is made in a “real world” environment. Investigators often discover the labs after the methamphetamine has been made and they rarely get to see the complete process of how it is made. The All About One Pots class on Thursday will give people the opportunity to see exactly how the items they find a meth lab are used in a practical setting. There are many more classes which can be found here (insert schedule).

The 2015 Jacksonville conference was an immense success because of the amazing people who attended. C.L.I.A wants to continue that success and build upon it by listening to the feedback from the attendees. C.L.I.A. has provided more options for breakout sessions for people to attend and has brought new and different perspectives on subjects so even the most seasoned investigator will be able to take something back to their agency to share.
